About COLORADO RISING FOR COMMUNITIES
Colorado Rising for Communities (CORFC) is a Colorado-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2019 that focuses on protecting communities from the impacts of oil and gas development through education, organizing, research, and strategic litigation.
The organization runs campaigns that document spills and exposures, supports local fights over permits and setbacks, convenes youth and outdoor-industry partners, and pursues regulatory and legal strategies to hold operators and regulators accountable.
In recent years CORFC has combined community storytelling, data-driven campaigns, and coalition litigation/advocacy to influence local permitting decisions and public awareness (notable recent activities: October 27, 2023 Youth Unity Rising Summit; January 30, 2024 permit action in Erie; May 19, 2025 launch of the 'Spilling the Truth' campaign).
Notable achievements
Permits denied for 18 fracking wells in Erie (Jan 30, 2024)
Supported local opposition and advocacy that contributed to denial of permits for a proposed 18-well fracking project near residential areas, demonstrating on-the-ground impact in a municipal permitting process.
Youth Unity Rising Summit and follow-on youth programs (Oct 27, 2023)
Hosted a day-long Youth Unity Rising Summit that engaged over 120 students and 20+ partner organizations, which led to creation of a Youth Fellowship and Youth Advisory Council to sustain year-round youth leadership.
Launched 'Spilling the Truth' campaign and chemical-disclosure outreach (May 19, 2025)
Rolled out a statewide public campaign and mailer effort highlighting oil & gas spills and undisclosed chemicals, elevating regulatory transparency issues and prompting broader media and community attention in 2025.
