About GRAND RAPIDS DOMINICAN SISTERS FOUNDATION

The Grand Rapids Dominican Sisters Foundation is the grantmaking arm of Dominican Sisters ~ Grand Rapids. The Foundation was created to preserve and extend the congregation’s ministry by funding organizations and initiatives that reflect Dominican values and the tenets of Catholic Social Teaching. The Foundation was publicly announced in 2023 and launched formal grantmaking in 2024; since then it has funded mission-aligned organizations working in areas such as education, immigrant and farmworker services, support for survivors of human trafficking, care for the Earth, poverty alleviation, and spiritual formation. In 2025 the Foundation reported an increase in overall funding and broadened its scope, emphasizing leadership diversity among grantee partners.

Notable achievements

Established to sustain Dominican ministry

Formally launched as the Grand Rapids Dominican Sisters Foundation to steward funds for grantmaking that continue the Sisters’ ministries and extend their impact into the future.

Launched grantmaking (spring 2024)

Began making grants in 2024 to organizations whose missions align with the Sisters’ priorities, initiating community-focused support across education, justice, health, and spiritual formation.

Expanded funding and diversified grantees (2025)

In 2025 the Foundation increased its overall grantmaking and broadened its scope; a large majority of that year’s grantees were led by women and a high proportion were led by people of color, reflecting an emphasis on equity in funding.
