About Save Giraffes Now

Save Giraffes Now (SGN) is a Dallas-based 501(c)(3) conservation organization focused on preventing giraffe extinction through on-the-ground rescue, rewilding, anti-poaching, research, and community-led conservation programs across multiple African countries. SGN partners with local communities, national wildlife services, and international zoos to carry out translocations, sanctuary development, satellite-tracking studies, and rapid-response anti-snare teams.

In the last three years SGN has continued active program work and growth — including significant translocations and sanctuary work in Kenya — and has increased program spending and staffing to support expanded projects across several giraffe range states. The organization maintains public financial filings (Form 990) and publishes annual impact reports describing measurable program outcomes and partnerships.

Notable achievements

Ruko Island Rescue (2020–2021)

Led and partnered on the high-profile rescue and reintroduction of highly endangered Rothschild’s giraffes from Longicharo Island (Lake Baringo, Kenya) into the newly established Ruko giraffe sanctuary, preserving surviving individuals and establishing long-term monitoring.

2024 Rothschild Translocations to Ruko Conservancy

Completed a multi-animal translocation in 2024 that expanded the free-ranging Rothschild’s population at Ruko Conservancy, working with Kenya Wildlife Service, Northern Rangelands Trust and local community rangers to increase habitat-secure numbers.

Program Expansion & Financial Growth

Expanded conservation programs across multiple African countries (including rescue centers, anti-snaring teams, population monitoring and rewilding projects) while growing donor-supported revenue and program investment as reflected in recent Form 990 filings and published annual reports.
