DENVER DUMB FRIENDS LEAGUE

Founded in 1910, the organization historically known as the Denver Dumb Friends League is a large Colorado-based animal welfare nonprofit (EIN 84-0405254) that provides sheltering, rescue, veterinary care, humane education, and animal protection services. In March 2025 the organization announced a formal rebrand to the name Humane Colorado while retaining the same mission and programs.

Humane Colorado operates multiple facilities including the Leslie A. Malone Center (main shelter), the Buddy Center (Castle Rock), the Harmony Equine Center, and a donor-subsidized community veterinary hospital network (including the Veterinary Hospital at Yuma and the Veterinary Hospital at CSU Spur). Services include admissions and adoptions, urgent/low-cost veterinary care, spay/neuter and vaccine clinics, behavioral support, lost-and-found/reunification, and animal cruelty investigations.

In recent years the organization has expanded community veterinary access (opening/operating the Veterinary Hospital at CSU Spur in early 2022 and running neighborhood vaccine and pop-up clinics) and continued large-scale sheltering and animal-protection work; recent fiscal reporting and organization updates show tens of thousands of animals assisted annually across shelter and community-veterinary services.
