About Vail Mountain School
Vail Mountain School (VMS) is an independent K–12 college-preparatory school in Vail, Colorado, serving students from the local mountain communities and beyond. VMS is organized as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit (EIN 84-0533775).
The school combines rigorous academics with experiential outdoor education, service learning, and an intentional student-wellness program; VMS reports strong college-placement results and high AP performance supported by focused college counseling.
In recent years VMS launched a multi-year strategic plan, Learning Elevated (published 2024), and continues community-facing programs such as SummerQuest and extensive outdoor and snow-sports offerings that leverage its mountain setting.

100% four-year college acceptance
VMS reports that its Upper School students attain four-year college acceptances across graduating classes, supported by an intensive college-counseling program.
Strong AP & assessment results
The school reports high AP performance (a large share of students scoring 3+ on AP exams) and above-average MAP Growth results for Lower School students, reflecting academic achievement.
Learning Elevated strategic plan (2024)
In 2024 VMS launched 'Learning Elevated: Ten Bold Initiatives for a Decade,' a community-developed strategic plan focused on experiential learning, access, talent recruitment, and expansion through 2034.
