Special Olympics Colorado (SOCO) is a registered 501(c)(3) organization that empowers children and adults with intellectual disabilities through year‑round sports training, competition, health services and leadership programs to foster inclusion, confidence and community.

Special Olympics Colorado delivers year‑round Olympic‑style sports training and competitions, inclusive school programs, health initiatives and athlete leadership opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities across the state.
SOCO operates as the Colorado chapter of the global Special Olympics movement and serves athletes across the lifespan (ages 2+), providing programs at no cost to participants while partnering with schools, law enforcement, volunteers and corporate sponsors to scale reach and impact.
In recent years SOCO has expanded Unified Champion Schools, increased statewide events and participation, and supported Colorado athletes and staff at international competitions such as the Special Olympics World Games (Berlin 2023).

Statewide scale and growth
By 2024–2025 SOCO reported serving more than 23,000 athletes statewide and significantly expanded teams and events (hundreds of events annually and dozens of new teams added in 2024).
Expanded Unified Champion Schools
Rapid growth of Unified Champion Schools across Colorado (hundreds of schools), reaching large numbers of students and embedding inclusive practices in K–12 settings.
International representation (Berlin 2023)
Colorado athletes, coaches and delegation staff were part of Team USA at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin (2023), demonstrating athlete development pathways from local programs to the world stage.
