About Community Living Alternatives Incorporated

Community Living Alternatives (CLA) is an Aurora-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1979 that provides person-centered residential and day supports for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities across the Denver metro area. CLA operates host home and family-caregiver residential models and the CLASS day program (Community Living Alternatives Specialized Services), with in-house nursing and 24/7 on-call support. In recent annual reports and organizational materials (FY2023–FY2025), CLA has reported steady program-level participation and financial operations: its FY2025 Form 990 shows total revenue of approximately $3.38M and assets above $2.0M, and internal impact materials list program counts such as ~35 people supported in residential programs and ~21 participants in the CLASS day program. CLA emphasizes long-term, relationship-based supports, satisfaction from participants and guardians, and a commitment to individualized community inclusion. CLA’s work includes longstanding local initiatives to increase community inclusion and independent living (including early adoption and development of host-home models in Colorado), ongoing family-caregiver supports, and arts, wellness, and skill-building components in its day services designed to promote social connection and practical independence.

Notable achievements

Pioneer of Host Home Services

Originating from Colorado’s early host-home movement (late 1970s), CLA helped establish host-home alternatives to institutional care and has operated host-home and supported living programs since its founding in 1979.

Sustained Program Reach and Impact

Across recent fiscal years (FY2023–FY2025) CLA maintained steady service delivery—internal impact materials report dozens of residential placements and day-program participants while annual filings show continued program-service revenue as the organization’s primary funding source.

Multi-decade operational stability

CLA has operated for more than four decades, maintaining audited financial statements and positive net assets while preserving a small, person-centered service model focused on quality and continuity of care.
