About Friends of the Longmont Senior Center

Friends of the Longmont Senior Center (EIN 84-0860782) is a Colorado nonprofit incorporated in 1981 and federally registered as a 501(c)(3) in 1983. The organization raises funds and builds community support to expand programming, services and resources at the City-owned Longmont Senior Center.

The Friends provide grants, scholarships, bilingual programming, grief and caregiving support, peer-support volunteer training, and ‘last resort’ emergency assistance to ensure seniors can access classes, health and wellness programs, cultural events and basic needs support.

Recent activity (2022–2024) includes infrastructure and technology upgrades (Wi‑Fi improvements and planning for broader IT upgrades), funding for kitchen and lobby improvements, purchase of new transportation vans, and sustained program support: scholarships, support groups, fall-prevention classes, counseling referrals and cultural enrichment series.

Notable achievements

Sustained facility investments

Contributed to multiple major facility expansions and renovations (including commercial kitchen expansion, lobby refurbishment and conversion of a former fire station into an activities center) that expanded Senior Center capacity and services.

Demonstrated program impact (2023)

In 2023 the Friends funded dozens of support-group sessions (including Spanish sessions), provided nearly 200 fitness/general scholarships, supported fall-prevention programming, counseling referrals and emergency assistance to dozens of low-income seniors, and helped cultural programs reach over one thousand attendees.

Technology and accessibility upgrades

Funded on-site technology improvements such as Wi‑Fi upgrades and has actively advanced fundraising for a broader IT upgrade to improve accessibility and virtual/in-person program delivery.
