CAT CARE SOCIETY

Cat Care Society is a limited-admission, cage-free cat shelter in Lakewood, Colorado that serves the Denver metro region. Founded in 1981, the organization cares for special-needs and hard-to-place cats and reports providing care for over 1,200 cats each year. The shelter operates free-roaming spaces (using cages only when medically necessary) and provides in-house medical care, adoption services, community education, and an emergency cat food bank for people experiencing temporary financial hardship. Cat Care Society partners with other shelters and animal-welfare groups across Colorado to take in cats who might otherwise have limited placement options. The organization is donor-funded (it receives no government funding) and maintains transparent financial and governance practices, with recent public filings and an annual impact report and strategic plan covering the 2023–2026 period. Its campus and programs reflect several decades of community fundraising and investment, including the current facility opened in 2001.
