About WINGS OVER THE ROCKIES AIR & SPACE MUSEUM

Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum is Colorado’s official air and space museum operating a large hangar museum at the former Lowry Air Force Base (Air & Space Museum) and an active flight-focused site (Exploration of Flight) in the Denver region. The museum preserves and interprets military, civil and commercial aviation and space artifacts while operating hands-on exhibits, simulators, camps and a mobile planetarium to engage visitors of all ages. In the last 2–3 years Wings has expanded its education and outreach programs — including its Aerospace Exploration Pathway for grades 6–12, a portable Wingsphere planetarium launched in 2024, summer camps and school-field-trip programming — and continues to deliver public programming, flight-training scholarships and community events that connect learners to aerospace careers and STEM learning.

Notable achievements

30th Anniversary (2024)

Marked three decades of operation in 2024 with expanded programming across both Wings campuses, increased attendance and a year-long celebration that highlighted the museum’s growth as a regional aerospace education hub.

Wingsphere Mobile Planetarium (launched 2024)

Introduced a portable, immersive planetarium (Wingsphere) to bring high-quality space education into schools and community settings, expanding the museum’s reach beyond on-site visits.

Flight Training Scholarships & Education Impact

Between 2019 and 2024 the museum’s flight-training scholarship program awarded approximately $1.5 million in scholarships and supported hands-on aerospace education (including Aerospace Exploration Pathway and summer camps) that enrolled middle- and high-school students and guided thousands of K–12 field-trip visitors.
