About Roundup Riders of the Rockies Heritage and Trails Foundation, Inc.
The Heritage & Trails Foundation (founded by the Roundup Riders of the Rockies) is a Colorado-based 501(c)(3) grantmaking organization that supports trail construction, maintenance, and equestrian-related projects across Colorado and nearby areas. The Foundation complements public funding by partnering with federal, state and local land managers and nonprofit trail organizations.
In the last 2–3 years the Foundation has funded and partnered on numerous projects — including bridge replacements, trail rehabilitation and deadfall removal — and in 2024 launched a multi-year rehabilitation partnership for Big Creek Trail with the National Forest Foundation, Medicine Bow National Forest and youth corps partners.

Long-standing 501(c)(3) foundation
Established by Roundup Riders members in the 1980s and operating as a tax‑exempt 501(c)(3) since the late 1980s, the Foundation has a multi-decade track record of funding trail and equestrian projects across Colorado.
Sustained statewide grant impact
Regularly awards project-specific grants to a wide set of partners (e.g., Colorado Trail Foundation, Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, Wildlands Restoration Volunteers and local county open-space groups), enabling bridge replacements, trail reroutes, erosion control and corridor restoration.
Multi-year Big Creek Trail partnership (2024)
In 2024 the Foundation entered a special three-year partnership with the National Forest Foundation, Medicine Bow National Forest, Big Creek Ranch and youth corps to repair and rehab the Big Creek Trail after wildfire and landslide damage, demonstrating capacity for long-term, landscape-scale restoration.
