About FREEDOM SERVICE DOGS INC

Freedom Service Dogs (FSD) is a donor-facing 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered in Englewood, Colorado that breeds, raises, and custom trains assistance dogs for people with disabilities. The organization provides service, facility, skilled companion, and professional therapy dogs to meet individual client needs and offers lifetime support to active teams.

FSD operates multistage programs including purpose-breeding, community puppy-raising, professional training, and placement classes tailored to each client. Its programs explicitly serve veterans and first responders with PTSD or traumatic brain injury, children and young adults with autism and other neurocognitive disabilities, and people with mobility-related needs.

Founded in 1987, FSD moved into a purpose-renovated training facility in Englewood in 2016 and launched an in-house breeding program in 2020 to increase reliability and reduce wait times. In recent years the organization has continued to graduate multiple client-dog teams annually while maintaining lifetime follow-up, refresher training, and successor-dog support for placed teams.

Notable achievements

Ongoing client-dog placements

Since its founding in 1987, FSD has graduated hundreds of client-dog teams and continues to place multiple custom-trained assistance dogs each year, providing placements and lifetime support to active teams at no cost to clients.

Purpose-built Englewood facility

After a successful capital campaign, FSD established a state-of-the-art training, kennel, and program facility in Englewood (moved in 2016) to centralize breeding, training, and placement operations.

In-house purpose-breeding program

Launched in 2020, the organization’s in-house breeding program was developed to improve candidate health and temperament, shorten wait times, and increase the reliability of service-dog candidates.
