About THE COLORADO PREVENTION CENTER

The Colorado Prevention Center (CPC) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1989 that operates two complementary branches: CPC Clinical Research and CPC Community Health. CPC focuses on preventing and managing cardiovascular disease and diabetes through clinical trials, community-based programming, technology-enabled interventions, and partnerships with health systems and public health agencies.

CPC Community Health runs statewide and local programs—most notably Colorado Heart Healthy Solutions (CHHS) and the promotora-led CHARLAR curriculum—while CPC Clinical Research conducts multi-center clinical studies, biostatistics, data management, and global project operations. Over time CPC programs have reached tens of thousands of Coloradans and produced peer-reviewed publications and program evaluations in the last 2–3 years.

Notable achievements

Verified 501(c)(3) and sustained program scale

Established as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) since 1990 and operates sustained clinical and community programs that collectively have reached large numbers of Coloradans over decades.

Demonstrated population health impact (FY19–23)

During a recent multi-year public health grant cycle, CPC’s community health teams interacted with thousands of participants (screening over 6,300 people, providing in-depth coaching to over 3,400, and engaging more than 9,200 individuals), with documented improvements in key risk factors such as LDL cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, and body weight among program completers.

Peer-reviewed publications and program evaluation

Authored and contributed to multiple peer-reviewed studies and implementation evaluations in 2022–2025 that assess virtual delivery adaptations, promotora-led interventions, rural pilots, and cost-effectiveness of statewide prevention efforts.
