Bicycle Colorado
Bicycle Colorado is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 84-1201078) that advocates for all people who ride bikes by advancing safer, more equitable, and accessible bicycling through policy, education, and community programs across Colorado.
About Bicycle Colorado
Founded in 1992 and based in Denver, Bicycle Colorado uses advocacy, education and community engagement to improve bicycling safety, infrastructure, and access statewide.
The organization combines legislative advocacy, statewide education programs (including a free online driver education course), and signature events to mobilize members, partners, and policymakers toward safer streets and more equitable bicycling opportunities.
Notable achievements
Launched SHIFT Driving™ (2023)
Released a free, statewide, interactive online driver education course (SHIFT Driving™) to teach motorists how to share the road safely with bicyclists and pedestrians, expanding reach beyond instructor-led classes.
VeloSwap acquisition & relaunch (2023–2024)
Took ownership of the long-running VeloSwap bike expo in late 2023 and relaunched the event under Bicycle Colorado in 2024, restoring a major community fundraiser and outreach platform.
Legislative wins in 2024
Played a leading role in advocacy during the 2024 legislative session; most high-priority bills Bicycle Colorado supported passed, including distracted-driving and driver-education improvements, and helped advance funding/policy for vulnerable road users.
