About CRESTED BUTTE MOUNTAIN HERITAGE MUSEUM, INC.
The Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum is a nonprofit history museum (IRS 501(c)(3)) founded in 1993 and housed in the historic Tony’s Conoco building (an 1883 structure) in downtown Crested Butte, Colorado.
The museum maintains rotating and permanent exhibits that document regional subjects including mining, railroads, ranching, snowsports, mountain biking and local community life, and it offers public programs, K–12 education, walking tours and research access to its collections.
In recent years the museum has focused on building preservation and expanding visitor access: it completed a major building rehabilitation project in 2019, reported strong visitation in FY22/23, and continued programming and fundraising activity through 2023–2025.

Historic building rehabilitation
Completed a multi‑phase preservation and rehabilitation of the museum’s home (Tony’s Conoco), securing the long‑term stewardship of an 1883 historic structure and establishing a building preservation fund.
High recent visitation
Recorded strong visitor numbers in the FY22/23 period (tens of thousands of visitors), reflecting growth in public engagement and tourism-related impact.
Expanded regional exhibits
Expanded and maintained signature exhibits—including snowsports and mountain‑bike related displays—that document the Gunnison Valley’s sporting and cultural heritage and anchor several annual programs.
