THE CENTER FOR ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN WOMEN (CAPAW)
CAPAW invests in Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) women to build personal power and fight systemic racism for a more equitable future through leadership education, networking, and mentorship.
About THE CENTER FOR ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN WOMEN (CAPAW)
The Center for Asian Pacific American Women (CAPAW) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 1995, focused on leadership development for AANHPI women through its signature Asian Pacific American Women’s Leadership Institute (APAWLI), regional conferences, mentorship, and other professional-development programs. CAPAW’s programming uses a "whole-person leader" approach (relational, intellectual, financial, cultural identity, physical) to prepare participants for leadership roles across public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
In the last 2–3 years CAPAW has expanded virtual and regional programming, published alumni impact metrics for APAWLI, and convened national events including a 30th Anniversary conference and gala. CAPAW continues to operate as a donor-facing charity with active corporate and nonprofit partners, and recent Form 990 filings show year-to-year funding and asset changes consistent with an operating national nonprofit organization.
Notable achievements
30th Anniversary Conference & Gala
Organized a three-day 30th Anniversary Conference and Gala (September 4–6, 2025) that convened sponsors, partners, alumnae, and emerging leaders to celebrate the organization's history and set a forward-looking leadership agenda.
APAWLI measurable impact
Maintained and expanded the APAWLI fellowship and related programs; alumni evaluations report a large majority of participants (reported survey measures in the program materials) finding APAWLI effective in building networks and leadership skills and each fellow completes a community learning project intended to impact at least 25 people.
Major fundraising growth (2022)
Secured a significant fundraising year in 2022 that materially increased net assets (raising contributions in the hundreds of thousands) and supported expansion of national programming and scholarships.
