About Pueblo African American Concern Organization (PAACO)
Founded in 1992 as a grassroots, volunteer-led organization, PAACO focuses on increasing college access and persistence for African American and minority students in Pueblo County through scholarships, mentoring and tutoring.
PAACO awards semester scholarships (commonly $500 per semester, with a typical maximum commitment of $4,000 for four years for eligible recipients), runs mentoring/tutoring programs, and partners with local institutions such as Pueblo Community College and Colorado State University–Pueblo. In recent years PAACO has continued its annual scholarship cycle and hosted community events including its Annual Dinner & Dance and student orientation activities (notably active in 2023–2025).
