About FRONT RANGE EQUINE RESCUE
Front Range Equine Rescue (FRER) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 84-1418525) incorporated in Colorado on August 1, 1997 that rescues, rehabilitates, places, and when necessary retires horses while advancing public education and advocacy on equine welfare.
FRER operates rescue and foster networks in Colorado and maintains an East Coast administrative/rescue presence (East Coast operations were relocated to Virginia in April 2025). The organization runs direct rescue, adoption and retirement programs, owner-assistance and disaster response, and national advocacy campaigns (including anti-slaughter and wild-horse protection).
Recent activity (2023–2025) includes ongoing rescue appeals and rehabilitation campaigns, participation in statewide fundraising events, public advocacy successes on wild-horse litigation, and continued partnerships with other reputable rescues to expand capacity and emergency response.
Notable achievements
Tenth Circuit legal win (2025)
Participated in a multi-party legal challenge that resulted in a favorable federal appellate decision in 2025 protecting specific wild-horse herds and limiting planned large-scale removals.
Sustained operations and program scale
Continuous rescue operations since 1997 with expanded geographic reach (Colorado and East Coast) and multi-year tax filings through 2024 showing organizational revenue in the low millions and substantial net assets to support rescue and advocacy work.
Peer recognition (2025)
Received recent organizational recognition from the nonprofit community (including a 2025 Top-Rated award) and maintains long-term rescue partnerships to increase capacity and impact.
