About AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR AVALANCHE RESEARCH AND EDUCATION
AIARE (American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization founded in 1998 that develops and delivers research-based avalanche curriculum and training to reduce avalanche fatalities and injuries.
AIARE provides a standardized Risk Management Framework, a suite of recreational and professional courses, and instructor training through a nationwide (and international) network of providers; in the 2024–25 season AIARE reported a network of 114 providers, including 19 universities and colleges, and $102,490 in scholarship dollars awarded to support students pursuing avalanche education.

Established national, research-based curriculum
Since 1998 AIARE created and maintained a widely adopted Risk Management Framework and a standardized set of courses that are used across the United States and internationally to improve backcountry decision-making and safety.

Grown a network of providers exceeding 100 worldwide; the 2024–25 season included 114 providers and partnerships with 19 universities and colleges to broaden access to avalanche education.
