Sun Valley Youth Center
Empowering youth, family, and community to reach their God-given potential.
About Sun Valley Youth Center
Sun Valley Youth Center (SVYC) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) after-school and summer youth program serving Denver’s Sun Valley neighborhood since the late 1990s. SVYC provides year‑round, no-to-low-cost programming built on trauma-informed and attachment-aware practices to support academic growth, social-emotional learning, and family stability.
Programs serve children and teens (roughly ages 5–18) with homework support, enrichment, mentorship, counseling, and warm scratch-made meals in a safe community space. SVYC is deeply rooted in the local community and intentionally serves Sun Valley’s predominantly low-income, immigrant, and refugee populations.
In recent years SVYC has expanded its licensed status to increase capacity (early 2024), continued to operate robust after-school and summer programs, and documented positive outcomes for participants — including tracked high-school graduation outcomes for regularly engaged youth.
Notable achievements
High-school graduation outcomes
SVYC has tracked participant graduation since 2018 and reports that students who remain connected to weekly programming have achieved very high graduation rates, with many going on to college or postsecondary pathways.
Expanded licensing to grow reach
In early 2024 the organization adjusted its licensing/classification to a Neighborhood Youth Organization to increase its capacity and better serve more students in Sun Valley.
Sustained operating scale and funding
SVYC has maintained multi-year operational scale, serving dozens of youth daily and operating with annual revenues in the seven-figure range in recent filings, supporting program continuity and staff capacity.
