About ROCKY MOUNTAIN YOUTH CORPS
Rocky Mountain Youth Corps (RMYC) is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit (organized in 1999) that runs place-based conservation, education and workforce-development programs across northwest Colorado and neighboring areas.
RMYC operates age-targeted programs (service-learning crews, youth conservation crews, a Conservation Corps and internships) that combine paid field work, vocational training (chainsaw, wildland fire, trail and historic-preservation skills) and intentional life-skills/education curricula.
In recent years RMYC has scaled program delivery and visibility — producing multi-agency trail and restoration projects (including high-elevation 14er trail work in 2024), piloting an all-women fire crew (2023), and partnering on the July 2025 Hahns Peak Lookout restoration — while publishing a 2024 annual report and Form 990 documenting organizational scale.
Notable achievements
Largest youth employer in Colorado
RMYC reports large-scale seasonal staffing and program delivery (Form 990/annual reporting documents reflect multi-million-dollar annual revenues and several hundred paid staff/seasonal employees), positioning the organization as one of the region's largest youth employers and a reliable workforce partner for public-land projects.
All-women fire crew pilot (2023)
RMYC debuted an all-women fire crew in 2023 to expand inclusive access to wildland fire and fuels-reduction training; the pilot increased opportunities for women to gain certifications and crew leadership experience.
Hahns Peak Lookout restoration (July 2025)
In July 2025 RMYC crews partnered with Historic Routt County and the U.S. Forest Service to rehabilitate the Hahns Peak historic lookout, completing high-elevation preservation work that combined historic-preservation techniques with corpsmember training.
