About Friends of Castlewood Canyon State Park

Founded in 1997, Friends of Castlewood Canyon State Park operates under a cooperative relationship with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to raise funds, recruit and train volunteers, and deliver interpretive and educational activities that enhance visitor experience and protect park resources.

The organization is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit and is entirely volunteer-run, focusing on trail and habitat stewardship, educational programming for school groups, fundraising for park infrastructure and interpretive materials, and boundary protection efforts.

In recent years Friends has led or supported major projects—including trail improvements and the Wildcat Canyon Bridge (completed in February 2024)—and continues planning for future initiatives such as a dedicated educational center.
