Preparing youth in Africa to learn, earn, and thrive in today’s economy by developing leadership, entrepreneurship, and employment skills.
About Educate!
Educate! (EIN 84-1648607) is a Denver-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that delivers youth employment and skills programs across East Africa. The organization operates two complementary models: an employment-focused subject integrated into secondary schools, and livelihood bootcamps for young women who are unable to complete secondary school. Educate! prioritizes government partnerships and systems change to scale impact, and is majority African-led with a large in-region staff and local youth mentors delivering programs in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania. The organization emphasizes rigorous monitoring and evaluation and has published recent impact reporting (including a 2025 impact report) demonstrating durable improvements in income, employment, business ownership, and gender-equity outcomes for participants. In the past 2–3 years Educate! has continued government adoption work, expanded livelihood bootcamps for out-of-school young women, and sustained its evidence-building partnerships with academic and evaluation institutions to validate long-term outcomes for participants.
Notable achievements
Rigorous causal evidence
Multiple external evaluations, including randomized controlled trials and multi-year follow-ups, have demonstrated large, durable impacts: graduates of Educate!’s in-school model earned roughly double the income of peers years after graduation and showed substantial increases in employment and business ownership; bootcamp graduates earned materially higher incomes and were more likely to start businesses.
Systems-level adoption
Educate! achieved government adoption of its employment-focused subject at national scale in at least one country in the region, demonstrating a pathway from program delivery to sustainable, system-owned curriculum reform.
Regional scale and local leadership
The organization has grown to become a major youth employment and skills provider in East Africa, operating across Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania with hundreds of local staff and mentors and a deliberate majority-African leadership and staffing model.
