FRIENDS OF SHILOH GARDEN

Friends of Shiloh Garden is the nonprofit organization that operates and supports Shiloh Field Community Garden in Denton, Texas. The organization’s stated goal is to grow and deliver farm-to-table produce to local food pantries, shelters, and community food programs so people in need have access to fresh, nutritious food. Shiloh Field is a large, volunteer-run community garden located on roughly 14.5 acres near Texas Woman’s University; the organization reports hundreds of thousands of pounds of produce grown and distributed since the garden began. Shiloh Field combines free plots for local families with centrally managed production beds whose harvests are donated or distributed through partner agencies. In the last 2–3 years Friends of Shiloh Garden has remained active while adapting operations to rising costs and extreme weather. In 2023 the board implemented temporary scale-backs to planting and volunteer hours in response to heat and water-cost pressures and pursued changes in distribution (including discussions with regional food banks) to keep the garden financially sustainable while continuing to serve area food partners.
