About COLORADO AMATEUR RADIO EMERGENCY SERVICES
Colorado Amateur Radio Emergency Services (Colorado ARES) is the state-level ARES program that organizes licensed amateur radio volunteers across regions and districts to provide emergency and public-service communications in Colorado. The program works within the ARRL field-organization framework and coordinates with local emergency management, AuxComm, and served agencies to fill communications gaps during incidents and exercises.
Colorado ARES maintains regular training, weekly nets, interoperable HF/VHF/UHF and digital communications capabilities, and a regional/district leadership structure led by an appointed Section Emergency Coordinator to support incident response, situational awareness, and continuity of communications for responders and communities.
Notable achievements
Statewide ARES Organization and Leadership
Established a structured Colorado Section with regional and district coordinators and a Section Emergency Coordinator to coordinate volunteer response across the state.
Integration with State AuxComm and Mobilizer Programs
Worked with Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and local jurisdictions to formalize auxiliary communications roles and participate in statewide volunteer mobilizer and interoperability initiatives.
Sustained Training and Net Operations
Maintains regular nets, training programs and multi-district exercises that keep volunteers proficient and ready to support incidents and public-safety partners.
