About ACCESSOS

ACCESSOS (branded as accesSOS) is a San Francisco–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit developing a free, icon-driven mobile and web platform that connects people to 911 and mental-health resources without the need to speak. The organization was founded in 2019 to address barriers to emergency access experienced by Deaf and hard-of-hearing people, those with limited English proficiency, and individuals for whom voice calls are unsafe.

ACCESSOS operates the accesSOS app and related web tools (including text911.info and contact911.org) to detect location, present simple icon-based choices for Medical/Police/Fire/Mental-Health response, and connect users to dispatchers via chat. The organization has grown partnerships with technology and public-safety partners and has deployed regional launches and language expansions to broaden reach and equity in emergency response.

Notable achievements

Platform reach and usage milestones

The accesSOS platform has reached tens of thousands of users and reports thousands of direct assists and millions reached through advocacy and awareness campaigns, demonstrating measurable adoption and lifesaving use in launched locations.

Multilingual and regional expansion

Expanded the platform to support dozens of languages and launched localized deployments (including a public launch in parts of New Mexico), increasing access for people with limited English proficiency and diverse communities.

Strategic partnerships and institutional support

Secured technical and financial support from technology partners and philanthropic funders and established integrations and collaborations that accelerated app development, testing, and public-safety outreach.
