Napa Green
To raise the bar for sustainability and climate action in the wine industry by delivering rigorous, third‑party vineyard and winery certification (a soil‑to‑bottle approach) and by providing resources, technical support and convening programs that help wineries and growers reduce emissions, build soil health and advance social equity.
About Napa Green
Napa Green is a public 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Napa, CA that operates the Napa Green Vineyard and Napa Green Winery certification programs and related grant, education and industry convening activities. The organization delivers third‑party inspected, soil‑to‑bottle certification for vineyards and wineries and provides toolkits, field days and technical support to help participants adopt regenerative practices, improve resource efficiency and reduce climate emissions. In recent years Napa Green has expanded its programmatic focus to explicit climate outcomes and regenerative viticulture: it launched the multi‑event RISE Climate & Wine series, adopted a phased policy to phase out synthetic herbicides (beginning with glyphosate), and has partnered regionally and internationally (including the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation) to pilot accessible programs such as the One Block Challenge to accelerate on‑farm regenerative practice adoption.
Notable achievements
RISE Climate & Wine Symposium (launched and expanded)
Established a multi‑event industry symposium (RISE) focused on climate action, regenerative farming and ESG practices for the wine sector; the series has run annually and provided workshops, recorded sessions and partner convenings that amplify climate solutions for wineries and growers.
Glyphosate phase‑out and 2026/2028 targets
Adopted a pioneering policy (announced in 2023) to phase out glyphosate and other synthetic herbicides across program participants, with public targets to scale acreage certified/enrolled and to materially reduce glyphosate use in Napa County vineyards by 2026–2028.
Scale of third‑party certification and regional impact
Built a widely adopted soil‑to‑bottle certification with dozens of certified wineries and a large acreage footprint in Napa County (historically tens of thousands of acres under Napa Green land programs), driving measurable improvements in water and energy efficiency, waste diversion and riverbank restoration across the region.
