The InnerSource Commons Foundation empowers developers and organizations to apply open-collaboration (InnerSource) principles in their daily work and to steward a neutral, community-governed body of knowledge about InnerSource practices.
About InnerSource Commons Foundation
InnerSource Commons Foundation is a U.S.-incorporated 501(c)(3) public charity (incorporated February 19, 2020) that serves as the neutral, global hub for InnerSource — the application of open source principles inside organizations. It maintains open learning materials, published patterns, books, research reports, and community governance resources to help enterprises adopt InnerSource practices. The Foundation supports a large, active community of practitioners (the website cites over 3,000 individuals from more than 800 companies, academic institutions, and government agencies) and runs regular community calls, working groups, regional gatherings, and an annual/global InnerSource Summit. Its content and assets are generally published under open licenses and it operates on a lean, sponsorship- and membership-oriented model. In the last 2–3 years the Foundation has published the State of InnerSource report (2022–2023), produced multiple case studies and learning tracks, and expanded its in-person and hybrid summit activity (including a global, multi-hub 10th‑anniversary summit in 2025). It continues to host monthly events, steward InnerSource Patterns and learning paths, and collaborate with major industry participants to advance adoption and research.
