About MORRIS ANIMAL FOUNDATION
Morris Animal Foundation is a Denver-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that funds and coordinates animal health research worldwide. Founded in 1948, the Foundation supports studies across companion animals, equids and wildlife and invests in science to improve veterinary care and conservation outcomes. In recent years Morris Animal Foundation has expanded wildlife funding, responded to emerging disease threats, and continued large-scale longitudinal efforts that inform prevention and treatment of animal disease.
Notable achievements
Golden Retriever Lifetime Study
Launched in 2012 and managed by Morris Animal Foundation, the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study is a large prospective, longitudinal cohort tracking more than 3,000 golden retrievers to identify risk factors for cancer and other diseases; the Study and its data commons have produced ongoing findings and resources used across veterinary research.
Veterinary Student Scholar program (training next-generation researchers)
Since 2005 the Veterinary Student Scholar program has supported hands-on, mentor-guided research for veterinary students (600+ students supported to date); recent rounds awarded cohorts in 2025 and 2026, sustaining pipeline development for animal health science.
Broad funding portfolio and rapid response to emerging threats
Morris Animal Foundation has funded thousands of studies (over 3,000 studies and major multi‑million-dollar initiatives to date) and invested substantial grant dollars globally; examples in the last 2–3 years include funding new wildlife health projects, awarding multiple wildlife fellowships, and co-funding an international response to a feline infectious peritonitis outbreak.
