THE PARK PEOPLE
The Park People is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit working with communities to plant trees and improve parks for a healthier, more resilient future for Denver.
About THE PARK PEOPLE
Founded in 1969, The Park People partners with residents, Denver Parks & Recreation, funders, and volunteers to expand Denver’s urban forest and to raise private funds for park capital projects and restorations.
The organization runs citywide tree distribution and stewardship programs (most notably Denver Digs Trees), community greening and workforce development initiatives, and capital projects that restore park infrastructure and public amenities.
In the last 2–3 years The Park People has continued large-scale tree distributions and neighborhood tree-adoption events (including a high-volume Earth Day distribution in April 2023 and community adoption events through 2024), plus ongoing training and stewardship programming through 2024–2025.
Notable achievements
Long-term citywide impact
Since founding, the organization has engaged tens of thousands of residents and planted on the order of tens of thousands of trees citywide, building a multi-decade legacy of urban forestry and park investment in Denver.
Earth Day 2023 — 1,400 trees
On Earth Day 2023 The Park People distributed approximately 1,400 trees (with roughly 63% placed in low-canopy neighborhoods), supported by hundreds of volunteers and partner funders to expand canopy where it’s most needed.

Decades of capital projects and fundraising have supported restoration and new amenities across Denver parks, including high-profile restorations and recreational facility improvements.
