About Denver Philharmonic Orchestra

The Denver Philharmonic Orchestra (DPO) is a community-rooted symphony orchestra founded in 1948 that presents a season of main-series concerts, community performances, and education programs across the Denver metro area.

DPO emphasizes access, inclusion, and immersive concert experiences through initiatives like Pay What You Can ticketing, the More Than Music/Take A Stand community partnerships, and training programs for emerging conductors and musicians.

In recent years the organization has refreshed artistic leadership and expanded community-facing programs while maintaining a long local legacy of volunteer and professional musicianship.

Longstanding local institution

Founded in 1948, DPO has more than 75 years of continuous service as a major community orchestra in Denver, with a legacy that includes founder Antonia Brico.

New Music Director (2025)

Appointed Scott O’Neil as Music Director (announced January 24, 2025) to lead a refreshed artistic vision and expanded storytelling-driven programming.

Access initiatives

Adopted Pay What You Can ticketing across performances and developed More Than Music/Take A Stand partnerships to increase equity, representation, and community impact.
