AURORA POLICE ASSOCIATION
To represent and protect the professional, legal, and economic interests of Aurora Police Department members while supporting the Aurora community through targeted charitable programs.
About AURORA POLICE ASSOCIATION
The Aurora Police Association (APA) is the labor association representing officers of the Aurora, Colorado Police Department. Founded as a police social club in the 1940s, the APA now provides collective-bargaining representation, legal and administrative defense, insurance-related benefits, and other member services.
The APA also operates the Aurora Police Association Charitable Foundation (established in 2015) to run community-facing programs such as Shop with a Cop, scholarships, and officer/family assistance during critical incidents. Important tax-status note: the APA is organized and operates as a labor organization (classified as a 501(c)(5) labor/exempt entity), not a 501(c)(3) public-charity—therefore gifts to the APA itself are generally not tax-deductible as charitable contributions.
Notable achievements
Advocacy for increased police staffing
APA-led advocacy contributed to a successful community ballot measure encouraging increased officer staffing levels, a pivotal policy outcome for the department's growth.
Creation of APA Charitable Foundation
Established a separate charitable foundation (2015) to centralize and expand community programs, officer-family assistance, and scholarship funding.
Sustained Shop with a Cop programs
Developed and maintained recurring back-to-school and holiday Shop with a Cop events that pair officers with local children to provide clothing, school supplies, and holiday gifts.
