About METRO CARING

Metro Caring is a Denver-based, donor-facing anti-hunger nonprofit that operates a free Fresh Foods Market, nutrition and cooking education, urban agriculture, ID procurement, and community organizing programs. The organization emphasizes dignity, cultural relevance, and equity in food access and pairs immediate food distribution with long-term policy and community-led solutions. In recent years Metro Caring has expanded purchases of local food, launched community-led multilingual nutrition programs, piloted innovative workplace practices, and pursued site redevelopment to include affordable housing as part of addressing the root causes of hunger.

Notable achievements

Scale of service

In its most recent annual reporting year Metro Caring served over 20,000 households (56,000+ individuals) through its Fresh Foods Market and distributed the equivalent of roughly $7.8 million worth of groceries, reflecting substantial year-over-year growth in demand and service.

Local procurement and food commitments

Metro Caring shifted to purchasing commitments with Colorado producers to guarantee culturally relevant and reliable groceries; a reported 94% of purchased food supported local and historically marginalized producers and the organization published a Local Food Procurement Catalog to strengthen producer partnerships.

Community-led, multilingual programs

Metro Caring operates nutrition and cooking programs developed and led with community members—programs such as Diabetes Among Friends (offered in Arabic, English, and Spanish), Kidz in the Kitchen, and Baby Café—and reported hundreds of nutrition program attendees and community leaders trained as facilitators.
