About HAWAII FETAL ALCOHOL SPECTRUM DISORDERS FASD ACTION GROUP
The Hawaiʻi Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Action Group is a Hawaiʻi-based nonprofit (Kaneohe) that formed as a volunteer advocacy group in 2016 and established formal nonprofit status in the early 2020s. The organization focuses on education, provider training, community advocacy, and applied research to improve identification, supports, and systems-of-care for people affected by prenatal alcohol exposure. In 2023–2024 the Action Group completed a state-funded “FASD Social Laboratory Project” (award OCS-GIA-23-87) that moved the organization from volunteer-only operations toward staffed leadership and formal program delivery; outcomes from that effort include statewide trainings, provider-level screening work, and published executive summary findings in 2024. The group works with state and community partners (including educational, health, and social service providers) to translate FASD knowledge into practice and systems-level recommendations for Hawaiʻi.
