About HAWAII DATA COLLABORATIVE

Hawai‘i Data Collaborative (HDC) is a Honolulu-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that builds data infrastructure, tools, and partnerships to make timely, local data useful to decision-makers across government, philanthropy, and the nonprofit sector. HDC’s work emphasizes accessibility and collaboration: the organization creates shared data resources (including a Hawai‘i-specific PolicyMap instance and public dashboards), supports partner organizations’ data capacity, and produces research and context to inform policies and programs that address household needs. In the past 2–3 years HDC has expanded its public-facing tools and partnerships (including work on statewide data governance, enhancements to Aloha United Way’s 211 reporting, and project work with early-childhood partners), grown program staff, and increased its operating scale to support statewide data use and coordination.

Notable achievements

Statewide PolicyMap access

Sponsored and deployed a Hawai‘i-focused PolicyMap instance to provide mapping, neighborhood-level datasets, and analysis tools to practitioners statewide, improving local organizations’ ability to plan and target services.

AUW 211 dashboard partnership

Partnered with Aloha United Way to enhance AUW 211 data reporting, delivering regularly updated, weekly metrics on household need that support service providers and funders in near-real time.

Rapid program and funding growth

Scaled operations and staffing since founding (supported initially by philanthropic seed support), securing multi-hundred-thousand to multi-million dollar philanthropic commitments that enabled multi-year expansion of projects, tools, and statewide partnerships.
