HOMEMORE PROJECT INC (dba The HomeMore Project)
To uplift the homeless community in California by building a culture of transparent and genuine relationships while focusing on the centralization of resources and providing realistic yet innovative solutions to an ongoing crisis.
About HOMEMORE PROJECT INC (dba The HomeMore Project)
The HomeMore Project is a San Francisco–based 501(c)(3) public charity that designs and distributes the Makeshift Traveler — a purpose-built backpack and shelter kit — to people experiencing unsheltered homelessness and builds relationships that connect recipients to local services. The organization began distribution in October 2022 and operates both direct-distribution programs and partnerships with shelters and community organizations across California.
Beyond kit distribution, The HomeMore Project is developing a Transitional Housing Program intended to provide supportive, multi-disciplinary services (housing, healthcare, employment connections and education) for people moving from street homelessness into stable housing. The organization reports active expansion of distribution partnerships and ongoing shipments and grant-supported projects into 2025–2026.
Notable achievements
Makeshift Traveler distribution
Developed and refined the Makeshift Traveler shelter/backpack and has distributed several hundred units to people experiencing homelessness; site materials state over 500 Makeshift Travelers donated and the organization ramped new shipments (including a 500-piece shipment in early 2026).
Geographic expansion and partnerships
Expanded distribution beyond San Francisco into multiple California communities and established partnerships with local providers (examples include St. Vincent de Paul — Los Angeles, Sonoma county partners, and other county-level providers) to deliver makeshift kits and coordinated support.
Project deployments and targeted grants
Secured targeted funding and project awards to support focused distributions and programs — examples include grants and project work to serve cohorts such as women experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles and dedicated shipments to communities (including a 2026 shipment to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands).
