About Marked By COVID

Marked By COVID is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2020 by Kristin Urquiza and Christine Keeves after family members died of COVID-19. The organization combines public memorialization, survivor support, and policy advocacy to center pandemic remembrance and equitable recovery.

Marked By COVID built the National COVID Memorial — a digitally scalable memorial that pairs locally designed physical monuments with an augmented-reality “Marked by COVID Lens” to surface names, photos, and personal stories for the more than one million people who died in the U.S. during the pandemic. The group also advances public-policy solutions (including Baby Bonds for children orphaned by COVID and campaign proposals for a national COVID Memorial Day) and organizes national vigils and temporary installations in cities across the country.
