About NATIVE AMERICAN FISH & WILDLIFE SOCIETY

The Native American Fish & Wildlife Society (NAFWS) is a national tribal nonprofit (501(c)(3)) based in Northglenn, Colorado that was established in the early 1980s to support tribal stewardship of fish, wildlife, habitat and related cultural resources. NAFWS provides training, technical assistance, conferences, funding guidance, policy resources, and youth education to Tribal natural resource programs across the United States. In recent years NAFWS has expanded program delivery and membership: it reports serving hundreds of federally recognized Tribes and several hundred individual members, runs multi-region initiatives (climate adaptation, invasive species response, wildlife health, tribal conservation law enforcement), operates a national youth practicum and certification programs, and files annual Form 990 disclosures demonstrating growing revenues and program-scale increases across 2022–2024.

Notable achievements

HUNSAFE Program Certification

NAFWS’s Huntsafe hunter education program was officially certified through the International Hunters Education Association, formalizing a tribal-focused hunter safety curriculum and training pathway.

National Summer Youth Practicum

NAFWS delivered a National Summer Youth Practicum bringing tribal students together for applied natural-resource training and leadership development, with multiple cohorts in 2023–2024.

Program and Fiscal Growth

Between 2021 and 2024 NAFWS substantially increased its contributed revenue and program capacity, expanding services, staffing, and grant-supported initiatives that enabled broader technical assistance to Tribes nationwide.
