About Association of Ramaytush Ohlone

The Association of Ramaytush Ohlone (ARO) is a San Francisco–based nonprofit representing descendants of the Ramaytush (the original peoples of the San Francisco Peninsula). ARO advances rematriation and restoration by acquiring access to land, leading ecological stewardship, and revitalizing cultural practices and ceremonies.

Since becoming a tax-exempt nonprofit (EIN 86-3991594), ARO has expanded programmatic work and partnerships across the Peninsula. Recent work (2023–2025) includes an Indigenous Community Garden project in Golden Gate Park, collaborative land-access and stewardship agreements (e.g., Filoli and other land partners), and public-facing land-acknowledgement and programming partnerships with San Francisco agencies and institutions.
