About GUNNISON WILDLIFE ASSOCIATION

Gunnison Wildlife Association (GWA) is a local conservation nonprofit focused on stewardship, advocacy, habitat restoration, and public education in the Gunnison Basin. It works with land managers, community volunteers, and partner organizations to reduce human impacts on native wildlife and to improve habitat resilience.

Public charity registries and state records indicate GWA is organized as a federally tax-exempt organization (recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2022). In recent years the group has run volunteer habitat-restoration events, educational field trips, public-comment campaigns on wildlife management, and fundraising campaigns such as an annual photo contest and fall fundraising events.

Notable achievements

Volunteer restoration program

Regularly organized hands-on habitat-restoration workdays (e.g., sagebrush seeding and seedling plantings) that engage local volunteers and partners to rehabilitate wildlife habitat.

Influence on local management

Provided formal public comments and technical input to state and federal wildlife and forest-planning processes that helped shape local wildlife-management discussions.

Community fundraising and events

Established recurring fundraising and outreach programs (photo contest and fall Wildlife Connections fundraiser) that generate local support and visibility for conservation projects.
