IISc Foundation

IISc Foundation is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) public charity established to build awareness of and raise philanthropic support for the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. The foundation was formed in 2022 and is run by a volunteer board of directors and alumni, providing a U.S. vehicle for tax-deductible gifts to support IISc’s research, scholarships, endowed positions, and infrastructure.

Since formation it has acted primarily as a fund-raising and donor-engagement organization for IISc initiatives (including medical education and research partnerships), issuing receipts for donors in the United States and collaborating with IISc’s Office of Development and Alumni Affairs. Recent tax filings show the foundation moved from startup-level receipts in its first year to multi-hundred-thousand / multi-million-dollar annual contributions in subsequent filings, reflecting rapid growth in donor support and grant transfers to IISc.

The foundation positions itself as a donor-facing intermediary (alumni, individuals, family offices and corporations) for targeted gifts to research, student scholarships, visiting chairs, and capital or equipment purchases at IISc; it maintains an independent board and formal engagement terms with IISc while coordinating closely with IISc alumni groups in North America.
