About Colorado Afro Latin Dance and Arts Collective (formerly Denver Salsa Bachata Congress)
Colorado Afro Latin Dance and Arts Collective (CALDAC), founded from the Denver Salsa Bachata Congress, produces large-scale public festivals, workshops, performance showcases, and youth programs to celebrate and sustain Afro-Latin and Latinx artistic traditions in Colorado.
Formally recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2022 and rebranded to CALDAC in late 2023 to better reflect a statewide, Afro-Latin cultural focus, the organization centers inclusion, arts education, and community building through year-round programming.
CALDAC’s signature activities include an annual multi-day convention that brings instructors, performers, live bands and hundreds of workshops to the Denver/Aurora region, free community celebrations, and targeted youth education initiatives.
Notable achievements
501(c)(3) Determination (2022)
Formally established as a tax-exempt nonprofit organization in 2022, enabling tax-deductible donations, expanded fundraising, and grant eligibility.
Rebrand to CALDAC (2023)
Updated organizational name and public identity in late 2023 to reflect a broader Afro-Latin arts mission across Colorado and to increase inclusivity beyond salsa and bachata.
Sustained Large-Scale Annual Convention
Built an annual convention model that regularly attracts regional and national participants, hundreds of workshops, and multiple live bands/performances, establishing CALDAC as a major Afro-Latin cultural event in Colorado.
