About MISSION LOCAL SF

Mission Local SF is an independent, nonprofit news organization based in San Francisco’s Mission District that focuses on enterprise and neighborhood reporting on housing, City Hall, public safety, and cultural life. The site began as a UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism project and moved to independent operation, receiving formal 501(c)(3) status (Mission Local SF, EIN 88-3177547) in October 2022 (retroactive to July 1, 2022). ([missionlocal.org](https://missionlocal.org/about/?utm_source=openai))

In the last 2–3 years Mission Local has expanded its reporting staff and coverage beyond the Mission to multiple San Francisco neighborhoods while growing its budget and donor base. The newsroom has attracted major grants and partnerships that have funded reporting fellowships and new beats, enabling more on-the-ground reporting, neighborhood newsletters, and a larger team of reporters and trainees.
