PHILIPPINE AMERICAN WRITERS AND ARTISTS
A space to encourage the creation of Filipino American literature and the arts.
About PHILIPPINE AMERICAN WRITERS AND ARTISTS
Philippine American Writers and Artists (PAWA, Inc.) is a San Francisco–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports Filipino American writers, artists, and literary culture through events, publishing, festivals, and fiscal sponsorship. It evolved from earlier Filipino/American women’s writing groups and now organizes public programming in partnership with local institutions such as the San Francisco Public Library and the San Francisco Filipino Cultural Center. PAWA functions as an independent small press and community presenter: it publishes work by Filipino and Filipino American authors, curates readings and workshops, and helps produce the biennial Filipino American International Book Festival (FilBookFest). In recent years the organization has remained active with book launches, reading series, collaborative festivals, and fiscal sponsorship of community arts projects. PAWA operates with volunteer leadership and small-budget annual revenue reported on publicly available Form 990 filings; its programming emphasis is on access, community-building, and creating platforms for both emerging and established Filipino-descended writers and artists.
