About READERS 2 LEADERS

Readers 2 Leaders (R2L) is a Dallas-based 501(c)(3) literacy nonprofit that delivers high-quality, research-based reading instruction, coaching for educators, and family literacy supports. It operates in-school and after-school tutoring, a community Booktown Learning Center in West Dallas, and professional learning for teachers and partner organizations. R2L focuses on accelerating early literacy for underserved Dallas children (primarily ages 3–12) and also trains adults who support those children; it partners with Dallas ISD and is a founding member of the Read Up North Texas coalition to coordinate third-party evaluation and community impact. The organization has documented measurable student gains and maintains organizational quality certifications and external evaluations to guide program improvement.

Achieved Certified Prime status in 2023, demonstrating data-driven practices, governance, and a commitment to continuous learning and organizational improvement.

Documented student learning gains

Third-party evaluation through the Read Up coalition (SMU CORE) found Read Up students were far more likely to improve reading for every 10 hours of programming; R2L reported that more than 63% of its 1st graders met projected growth targets compared with a lower district rate.

Program scale and service reach

In the 2022–2023 year R2L served approximately 1,689 students and 301 adults through tutoring, coaching, and family literacy programming and logged thousands of volunteer tutoring hours via Reading Buddies and other initiatives.
