GYEDI PROJECT
To educate and empower minority and underserved communities to tackle health inequities and improve community well‑being.
About GYEDI PROJECT
The Gyedi Project is a grassroots community health organization based in Aurora, Colorado that centers culturally responsive education, outreach, and community‑engaged research to advance health equity for Black, immigrant, refugee, Latine, and other underserved populations.
Gyedi leverages culturally grounded values (including the Akan concept of ‘gyedi’—trust/self‑belief—and ubuntu) and partners with public health agencies, health systems, faith and community organizations to increase access to services, build trust in care, and deliver targeted education and professional training.
In recent years the organization has expanded maternal‑health programming (HearMe20), continued community outreach (including pop‑up clinics and education events), and received competitive grant support to scale culturally responsive interventions.
Notable achievements
Major grant for maternal health
Awarded a six‑figure grant (major foundation support received in late 2023) to expand culturally responsive maternal health programming for Black communities in Colorado.
Launch and scale of HearMe20
Developed and implemented the HearMe20 model (20‑minute listening/education sessions); early 2024 program activity tracked direct services to community members and informed program refinement.
Partnerships with public health and funders
Sustained collaborations with state and local public‑health partners and regional funders to run community outreach, training, and clinic support initiatives.
