About FIREBIRD THEATRE CO.
Firebird Theatre Co. is a community-based nonprofit theatre company founded in the summer of 2023 to expand live theatrical programming in the Gunnison Valley. The organization identifies as a 501(c)(3) public charity and solicits tax-deductible donations to support productions and education.
Programming includes mainstage productions, children’s theatre, staged readings and special events produced in partnership with local venues such as the Crested Butte Center for the Arts and the Almont Resort. Since its launch, Firebird has presented both classical (Shakespeare) and family-focused works and has expanded into a regular seasonal roster.
Recent seasons (2024–2025) show growth in scale and variety — multiple mainstage runs, a series of children’s shows, filmed/recorded productions available online, and community-facing events such as an interactive Rocky Horror screening and holiday programming.
Notable achievements
Inaugural season launches (2023)
Launched in summer 2023 with concurrent inaugural productions including an original children’s adaptation of Beauty and the Beast and an open-air production of Twelfth Night.
Partnerships with local arts venues
Established collaborative presenting relationships with the Crested Butte Center for the Arts and the Almont Resort, expanding access and venue options across the valley.
Expanded seasonal programming (2024–2025)
Moved from inaugural offerings to a multi-show annual calendar (mainstage runs, children’s series and special events) showing steady organizational growth.
