About Colorado Enterprise Development for Africa
Colorado Enterprise Development for Africa (CEDA) is a U.S.-based nonprofit (EIN 93-2826764) founded in 2023 to catalyze economic recovery and entrepreneurship for women in post-conflict regions of East Africa, with an initial focus in Tigray, Ethiopia.
CEDA implements small-scale, community-driven microenterprise programs delivered through local partners, combining interest-free seed capital, financial literacy, and trauma-informed mentoring to restore livelihoods and strengthen local ownership.
The organization operates with a lean structure and diaspora-engagement model, partnering with in-country NGOs for program delivery and using rotating loan pools and volunteer loan committees to maintain accountability and sustainability.
Notable achievements
Axum pilot rollout
Launched a founding initiative in Axum, Ethiopia, in which interest-free loans and training enabled approximately 50 women to start enterprises that support their families and communities.
Local partnership established
Formalized implementation partnership with an in-country NGO to deliver programs, use volunteer loan committees, and strengthen cultural competence and transparency.
Community-led lending model
Implemented a grassroots, rotating repayment system (‘giver agreements’) that centers community ownership and peer oversight.
