About Gunnison Tough
Gunnison Tough is a community-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 93-3409584) serving Gunnison and Hinsdale Counties, Colorado. It grew out of the local Tough Enough to Wear Pink efforts and now operates independently to expand grant opportunities and programs.
The organization funds screening and diagnostic services, provides direct patient support (financial assistance, integrative therapy coupons), operates patient transportation vehicles and a lodging program (Lucy’s House), and partners with Gunnison Valley Health and other local foundations to strengthen rural cancer care.
In the last 2–3 years Gunnison Tough has expanded program grants and community partnerships (including a 2025 Cancer Screening Access Fund collaboration), continued equipment purchases to improve local breast-care capacity, and reported measurable program impact (patient grants, integrative therapy sessions, nights of lodging, and transportation miles).

Since 2005 Gunnison Tough has raised multiple millions for local cancer programs and equipment, keeping fundraising revenue in the valley to directly support local care.
Major diagnostic equipment purchases
Supported local breast-care capacity through capital purchases (for example, a 2023 ABUS purchase and earlier MRI/3D mammography investments) to expand detection and diagnostic services at the regional hospital.
