Accola
Accola welcomes neighbors, cultivates community, and fosters justice by responding boldly to the needs of the time.
About Accola
Accola is a Saint Paul-based nonprofit that furthers immigrant opportunity, provides safe housing for women healing from trauma, and connects spiritual life with social-justice action. The organization traces its roots to programming of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet but was established as an independent nonprofit entity in recent years to focus and expand those services.
Accola operates three core program areas: Learning in Style School (adult immigrant education in English, digital literacy, and citizenship), Sarah’s… An Oasis for Women (safe, supportive housing and casework for women recovering from trauma), and Wisdom Ways Center for Spirituality (workshops and gatherings that link spiritual practice with social justice). In the last 2–3 years Accola completed organizational transition activities, commissioned a community needs assessment, and published program-level performance data while maintaining an active public-facing website and fundraising presence.
Notable achievements
Major transfer of assets to establish Accola
Accola received a significant transfer of assets from its founding/affiliated entity to support program continuity and scale-up, providing the capital base that launched the independent organization and supported program operations.
Adult education scale-up (Learning in Style School)
Learning in Style School expanded services in 2024–25 to serve roughly 230 student participants representing 40 countries and 25 first languages, with measurable student gains (approximately 45% of eligible students made at least one level gain in the reporting year).
Safe housing capacity and resident supports (Sarah’s)
Sarah’s… An Oasis for Women sustained near-capacity operation (about 28–29 residents during recent reporting) while providing coordinated supports—employment assistance, English classes, therapy referrals, and case management—to women recovering from trauma.
